This is the heifer we sold in the Select Hereford Sale at the 2011 Iowa Beef Expo. She was originally purchased to be the foundation for the Schanbacher Family's Hereford herd as they hadn't planned on showing her. As time went by they decided to try their luck in the show ring. That was a good decision as she was Champion Hereford Female in the 2011 Iowa State Fair FFA show as well as Champion Hereford both days at the IJBBA Final Drive show. The best part is she's bred to About Time and will calve this spring! Congratulations!

Although we didn't get a piece of the Hereford show yesterday we definitely made a splash. The heifer we sold in the Iowa Select Hereford sale received great remarks from the judge. The highlight for us was when a heifer we raised and sold privately, won her class, beating a very high caliber heifer from one of the top herds in the country! The future is looking bright!

Tomorrow will be a busy day at the Iowa Beef Expo Junior Show. With 884 exhibitors it's sure to be a hectic day. We are fortunate enough to have a couple heifers competing in the Hereford show as well as a couple Commercial heifers we sold in The Titanium 10 Sale. Good luck to everyone

In January, I had the opportunity to go to Denver for the National Western Stock Show and work on some of the best Herefords "On The Hill". I've been making the trip to Denver each of the past seven years to take in the sights, but I have always wanted to go work on cattle. Purple Reign Cattle gave me that chance this year. Randy and Jamie Mullinix raise some of the best in the breed and their winning track record proves it. In the past year alone they have won Fort Worth, Denver, Louisville, and Kansas City. To say the least, it was a pleasure to work on their high calibur cattle.

A couple weeks ago I stopped by a friends place to look through sale cattle. While looking at their bulls we started talking about one of the Hereford cows they bought from us. Last spring they flushed her a couple different ways. One flush to About Time for purebreds & the other to Red Rock for southern steers. Then she got bred back to Shock & Awe. So I had to go look at her and she's definitely one I wouldn't mind having back. This picture was taken that day. Can't wait to see how those matings work. I may just have to buy a flush!

The 2012 edition of the Iowa Beef Expo is fast approaching. With it comes the Iowa Select Hereford Sale in which we will be selling two April heifers. I was finally able to find some spare time to get one of the heifers clipped and even got a decent picture taken. This is Lot 52 in the sale catalog. She is sired by the former National Western Champion, About Time, and her mother is a Moler daughter. She's got a look all her own with a bell ringing pedigree!
